Josh began his Jiu Jitsu journey in 2003 and, like many beginners, spent his first two years struggling under side control, learning firsthand the challenges of the sport. With a background in martial arts, he was drawn to the principles of technical precision and relaxation over brute strength. Determined to understand the mechanics of Jiu Jitsu, he dedicated himself to studying movement, technique, and the ways in which leverage and strategy allow a smaller or less physically dominant person to overcome larger, stronger opponents.

 

This dedication led him to explore multiple aspects of Jiu Jitsu:

• Competitive Jiu Jitsu, earning medals at prestigious events, including his most recent podium finish at the 2024 No-Gi World Championships.

• Self-Defense Applications, drawing from Gracie Jiu Jitsu’s practical approach to real-world scenarios.

• The Art’s Creative Depth, continuously expanding his knowledge of Jiu Jitsu’s vast technical possibilities.

 

Josh remains a lifelong student of the art. Whether training with his Jiu Jitsu family at The Jiu Jitsu Company, analyzing footage, or exploring broader movement disciplines, he is always searching for new insights to refine his teaching and deepen his understanding of the sport. His passion for Jiu Jitsu is reflected not only in his own evolution but in his ability to guide students on their own journeys with clarity, precision, and a deep respect for the art.
