Sue Yee Chen

BJJ Rank: Brown Belt
Years Training: 7
Classes Taught: Fundamentals, Leg Locks (Sub) and Yoga (Sub)
Sue Yee has been training Jiu Jitsu for seven years, initially drawn to the sport as a fun and engaging way to stay active while learning self-defense. Now a brown belt, she teaches fundamentals at The Jiu Jitsu Company and also subs for leg locks and yoga classes, blending her knowledge of movement and mobility to complement Jiu Jitsu training.
Passionate about both Jiu Jitsu and teaching, Sue Yee sees instruction as a unique skillset separate from the sport. She constantly refines her teaching methods to be as effective as possible and is committed to fostering an inclusive environment—ensuring that women and POC feel welcome and represented in the gym’s leadership.
Her specialties include wrestling, guard passing, leg locks, and competition prep. As a yoga instructor in training (graduating May 2025), she also offers sessions focused on yoga foundations and joint health, designed to complement Jiu Jitsu.
Sue Yee’s ideal student? Someone who has a growth mindset, enjoys a challenge, and tolerates her puns. For her, Jiu Jitsu is an endless journey—one that’s never boring and always full of opportunities to improve. She loves the community at JJC, her students and friends, and, of course, the candy dispensers.
Sue Yee is available for private lessons, both one on one and small group trainings.
